August Wilson’s Fences
Arguably August Wilson’s most renowned work, Fences explores the life and relationships of the Maxson family. This moving drama was written in 1983 and earned Wilson his first Pulitzer Prize.
The protagonist, Troy Maxson is a restless trash-collector and former baseball athlete. Though deeply flawed, he represents the struggle for justice and fair treatment during the 1950s. Troy also represents human nature’s reluctance to recognize and accept social change. In the playwright’s setting description, symbols connected to his character can be found: the house, the incomplete fence, the porch, and the makeshift baseball tied to a tree branch.

I Just Stopped To See The Man
By Stephen Jeffreys. watch on YouTube
I Just Stopped By to See the Man,” British playwright Stephen Jeffreys’ charming, thoughtful and mysterious riff on musical immortality, idol worship and lost souls looking for grace. Holed up in a shotgun house in the Mississippi Delta, a legendary blues man has hung his guitar over the fireplace and sworn off the music that made him famous.

“In this richly humane and moving play, Stephen Jeffreys explores a fascinating corner of social and artistic history… It isn’t issues that drive the play but people and the love of music itself.” —The Daily Telegraph, London

Fundraising for Estanna Brewer
Soul Rebel Performance Troupe is proud to present a fun evening of talented actors/actresses performing short plays, Monologues and skits to help raise money for Estanna Brewer. Lets start the new year by helping Soul Rebel giving life to this young girl who’s in need of a transplant. Please read below a letter from her family.
Dear Friends and Family, … We are writing on behalf of our daughter Estanna. Let us tell you a little bit about Estanna. She has a twin sister named Diarrah. She is 19 years old and has been on Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) her entire life, along with additional nutrition via G-Tube. After several Hickman catheter placements, infections and intestinal surgeries, her doctor’s informed us that her only chance of a having a healthy life would be to have an intestinal transplant. Estanna was placed on the transplant waiting list at Georgetown University Medical Center on June 21, 2013, in which while her name was actively placed she is attending her high school graduation. Estanna loves to read, listen to music and enjoy time with her family whom she loves very much. She also likes to watch old T.V. programs such as 7th Heaven, Saved By The Bell and her favorite Fresh Prince of Bel Air. When her health permits, Estanna is part of the liturgical dancers at our church, (Mt.Calvary Baptist Church) visiting with friends and going to the movies. Even with insurance there will be many uninsured, transplant-related expenses such as: co-payments and deductibles, doctor visits, travel and temporary relocation to the transplant center and the costly immunosuppressant medications that she will need to take for the rest of her life. To help with this financial burden, a fundraising campaign has been established with SEFCU, in Estanna’s Honor anyone that would like to make a donation can go to any SEFCU Branch. Please note that all donations are tax deductible the monies are used for transplant expenses only. Title of Fund: “Transplant Donation Fund for Estanna Brewer” Everyone tells us that we have a strong little girl, so knowing that she will have a better quality-of-life after the transplant gives us hope. We greatly appreciate your support for our daughter during her journey in whatever way you can. Thank you, John, Linda and Diarrah Brewer
